Lelo Ida Wave Review: Dual Stimulation At Its Finest

Dual stimulation and the use of Lelo’s “come hither” wave motion make the Lelo Ida Wave something of a remarkable toy. In this Lelo Ida Wave review, we’ll consider how well this toy works with all these stimulation aspects and how well its controls are.

Lelo Ida Wave is also one of those rare Lelo vibrators that can be controlled through a smartphone. It connects to the phone via Bluetooth and can be controlled through the Lelo app.

There’s quite a lot going on with this toy. So, let’s get down to business and see how it all works out.

Lelo Ida Wave Overview: Pros And Cons

Lelo Ida Wave – Features, Design, And More

First Impressions And The Box

Lelo’s packaging and initial impressions are always spot on. This one’s no different. Lelo Ida Wave’s packaging feels every bit as premium as you would expect from a toy with this price tag.

A clear plastic window on the box shows the toy on one side with “Lelo Ida Wave dual stimulation massager” printed on the box.

As you open the box, you’ll find the toy safely nestled within the packaging. Here’s what you’ll find inside the box:

  • Lelo Ida Wave dual stimulation massager
  • USB charging cable
  • Warranty card
  • Instruction manual
  • A small sachet of lubricant
  • Drawstring pouch

The toy is available in coral red and black colors.

Design Notes Of The Ida Wave

Lelo Ida Wave has an interesting design. Its top is something like a disk and through one end of this setup, comes out the insertable arm of the toy. At first glance, this g-spot massager seems a bit wide, maybe even intimidating.

It starts with a fairly slender base, widening gradually towards the top, which becomes the g-spot massager. The wide and somewhat flattened top makes sense from a stimulation perspective.

The g-spot can be tricky to, well spot, so the wider coverage helps. Besides, it’s more responsive to pressure rather than vibrations, so the wide and flat base can be quite useful.

Since the Ida Wave gets to use the wave motion system, its tip will actually push against the g-spot. This allows for better stimulation, massage, and a better response from the g-spot.

And while I’ll touch on this later as well, it’s worth mentioning that the insertable side isn’t that difficult to work with! It can look a bit intimidating, but lube up right and it goes in quite smoothly.

One problem that some users might notice here, is that once the insertable side is in, the clit stimulator may not be positioned over the clitoris. The toy has something of a fixed design, which doesn’t leave much room for adjustment.

You could theoretically move the sides around a bit, but if the top of the vibrator doesn’t reach the clitoris, it isn’t going to help much. Making adjustments to reach the clitoris might end up moving the g-spot stimulator away.

The way I see it, if it doesn’t work for you, adjustments won’t really make things better. In that sense, it’s kind of a hit-or-miss thing.

Lelo Ida Wave Feel And Body

Lelo Ida Wave is a premium sex toy. And while its looks do it justice, it’s even better when you touch it. The soft and velvety smooth silicone feels great against the body. Pretty much any part of the toy that would come in contact with the body has a silicone coat.

This is a very important and very useful aspect. Silicone is perfectly body safe, plus, it’s non-porous, which makes it a great choice for sex toy hygiene.

But that metallic disk on top of the toy? That can’t be silicone, right? The metallic disc is made from ABS plastic. It adds a nice overall look to the toy. Besides, ABS plastic too is non-porous and non-toxic.

Also, since this part of the toy isn’t expected to come in contact with the body, the material choice isn’t problematic. Still, ABS plastic is a pretty good material for a sex toy (though silicone is much better)!

Battery And Charging Aspects

Power for the toy comes from a 520 mAh Li-ion battery. Lelo says that it takes about 2 hours for the toy to fully charge, and it offers up to 2 hours of playtime.

As with most toys, this playtime is hugely variable. Most users aren’t going to see anywhere near 2 hours of playtime. And that’s fine, you can have a good time with this toy regardless!

Those who prefer higher vibration intensity or like to lean in more on the Wave function, will find that this toy is usually out of battery in about an hour.

And that’s part of the reason I say that playtime isn’t a problem. In most cases, you’d be able to squeeze 2-3 good sessions from the toy on a single charge. Since this does have some mechanical function with the Wave, I’d suggest giving it a charge right before or after every use.

As for charging, Lelo is still in the generation of pin-style chargers. Although the company has made moves to adapt to modern expectations, we can be hopeful that some future iterations will have magnetic chargers show up.

Anyways, the pin-style charger goes into its spot at the top of the toy. It’s open and unprotected, so make sure the spot is dry before pushing in the charging pin. Lelo says the port is isolated so charging won’t be affected, but I’m just not willing to take that risk with an expensive toy.

Lelo Ida Wave Waterproofing And Cleaning

While we’re on the topic of things being dry – Lelo says that the Ida Wave is 100% waterproof. You can submerge the toy underwater and it will come out unscathed. It’s great for using this toy in the shower.

However, where it works best is for the cleaning of the vibrator. Since it’s waterproof, feel free to dunk it in water to thoroughly clean the toy.

A little more attention will be necessary to clean the parts where the silicone coating and plastic meet, but the overall process remains easy.

After you’re done cleaning, it’s good to add a few sprays of antimicrobial toy cleaners to keep things hygienic. Then, store it safely in its bag/pouch.

Controls For Lelo Ida Wave – App And Manual

Manually Controlling Lelo Ida Wave

Lelo Ida Wave is meant for controlling via the remote, but it doesn’t totally skip manual options. This adult toy has a single button interface on the side of the top part. It’s easy to work, and though it isn’t as convenient as the remote, it will do the job.

Controlling Lelo Ida Wave Through The App

Lelo Ida Wave includes a Bluetooth connector inside its body, which lets it connect to a smartphone. Once you’ve got it connected to the phone, it’s possible to use and control the toy through Lelo’s app.

The app is currently available for Android and iOS. It’s fairly function-rich and includes something for the user even if they’re not controlling the toy with the app.

It offers articles to read, even some erotica, and some tips, stories, and news. Those who own multiple Lelo toys can connect each of them to the app, and control the toy you prefer.

Of course, this implies that you have a toy with the Bluetooth and app connectivity features. Many Lelo toys don’t have this capability, or there might be toys that offer this now, but their previous versions did not.

Remember, Lelo’s app control is still relatively new.

Controls And Modes On The Lelo App

Now, let’s get to the meatier details. Using the toy through the app!

Once you’ve got your smartphone and toy paired, it’s time to enjoy the app’s controls. There are plenty of control settings, but here are the three essentials:

  • Screwing: The vibration intensity changes depending on the angle of the phone. This goes from minimal at 0° tilt to maximum intensity at 90°.
  • Shaking: An up/down hand motion with the phone changes the vibration intensity. Faster motion results in higher intensity.
  • Boring: Conventional controls where users can change intensity through the conventional +/- buttons.

If you consider these controls, you’ll notice that the app is still trying to mimic Lelo’s Insignia remote control. The “screwing” and “shaking” functions especially come straight from the remote.

While I enjoy the Lelo remote, I’m not sure how well it translates to using the same features on a smartphone. The “screwing” mode is still okay, but I’d be uncomfortable shaking an expensive smartphone to get the vibrations rolling.

So, the boring mode it is. I might even try “screwing” occasionally, but “shaking” is out of the picture.

One shortcoming I see with the app is that you cannot share its controls with another device (like with Lovense app and toys). Essentially, the phone paired with the app is the remote control.

If you want your partner to take control over the toy, you’d have to hand them the phone, rather than sharing controls. In that sense, Lelo’s app isn’t yet prepared for the long-distance intimacy we usually expect from app-controlled vibrators.

But, there’s still room for improvement, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this feature gets added in a future update.

Lelo’s app also struggles with connectivity issues like many other toy brands. It’s not bad, but it could be better.

My Use And Experience With Lelo Ida Wave

How Lelo Ida Wave Feels While In Action

As I previously pointed out, the insertable side of the Lelo Ida Wave can look somewhat intimidating. However, it wasn’t much trouble to insert once there was a good amount of lubricant on me and the toy.

Water-based lubricants are the best choice for these toys. And yes, you should use lubricant with this (or any other toy) even if you feel that you can get wet enough by yourself.

Another thing that worked out for me with this toy, was that the clit stimulator was the right size and covered the right spot. As pointed out earlier, this can be a problem with some women, since the toy doesn’t offer much flexibility for the clit stimulator.

Connecting to the app was easy, and once ready, I moved straight to the “boring” control setting on the app. To its credit, the toy fits in nicely, and doesn’t need manual intervention to be kept in place.

I like this, so I can focus on the controls and pleasure, rather than holding the vibrator in place.

Once the toy is in action, I feel it runs pretty nicely. It has dual motors, but they cannot be controlled individually.

Yet, the vibration mix is pretty good and the vagina and the clit both enjoyed the massage on offer. The vibrations are deep and rumbly, which works well for this toy.

But things really hit a new high once the wave motion kicks in. With wave motion, the insertable side of the vibrator physically moves in a to-and-fro motion, which is something like a beckoning motion someone would do with their fingers.

It provides excellent stimulation for the g-spot, and feels immensely pleasurable. I found the wave motion and the rumbly vibrations to be pretty good.

Lelo Ida Wave is fun and pleasurable. It gets you right where you want and delivers a good orgasm.

Did you notice that while I enjoyed this toy, my excitement isn’t all that high? Well, here’s the thing. Lelo Ida Wave delivers exactly what it promises and is a fun toy. But there is real competition to consider.

I’d rather go with something like the Lelo Ina Wave 2 to enjoy the wave motion and a better approach to dual stimulation. And if I want something more compact, there’s always the Lovense Lush 3.

So, while I enjoy the Ida Wave, it won’t be my first pick over some of its competitors, including those that come from Lelo’s stable.

Lelo Ida Wave And The Couple’s Vibrator

Lelo initially marketed the Lelo Ida as a couple’s vibrator. The idea is that you can have PiV (penis in vagina) sex while the vibrator is inserted. It didn’t really work well for that purpose.

So, Lelo Ida Wave isn’t marketed as a couple’s vibrator. You can have your partner handling the remote, or even try to have sex while the toy is inserted, but it’s not supposed to be used that way anymore.

Besides, with the wave motion technology involved, the toy isn’t all that suitable for use as a couple’s vibrator.

How Noisy Is The Lelo Ida Wave?

Noise is always an important factor when using adult toys, especially for those who worry about discreet use.

There’s good news on that front. Lelo Ida Wave is very low on the noise aspect. There is a sound from the toy, and it isn’t exactly quiet especially once WaveMotion starts. Yet, it isn’t loud and definitely not something that would attract attention.

I find this to be a fairly quiet toy. Any noise it makes can easily be drowned with background noise like a TV or music. It can be fairly discreet while in use.

Conclusion

Lelo Ida Wave is a compact and fun toy that’s ready to deliver strong and rumbly vibrations. In fact, as we see in this Lelo Ida Wave review, the small toy is surprisingly good at delivering deep and rumbly vibrations.

It offers a good combo of clitoral and vaginal stimulation, but things get all the more better with the wave motion for stimulating the g-spot.

This vibrator is not without its flaws. Yet, it’s a pretty good pick if you want dual stimulation and WaveMotion in a compact and discreet package.
